Overview
EgressIQ (“the app”, “we”) is a basement egress window compliance tool for iOS. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it goes, and what choices you have. We built EgressIQ to collect as little as it needs to do its job — most of what the app produces (your properties, measurements, and photos) never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it.
Information collected on-device
The following stays on your iPhone (in local app storage or the device Keychain) and is not transmitted anywhere unless you use one of the sharing features described below:
- Property addresses, resolved building-code jurisdiction, and the measurements and photos you capture for each window.
- A photo of the property (auto-fetched from Apple Maps Look Around, or one you choose yourself).
- Your name, if you provide it via Sign in with Apple, and your selected role (homeowner or home inspector).
- A random device identifier and a hashed version of your Apple ID, used only to track whether your device has already used its one free report — this cannot be reversed to identify you.
Camera, LiDAR, and location
The camera and LiDAR sensor are used to capture window photos and assist with sill-height measurement. Location, if you grant it, is used only to look up your property's building-code jurisdiction — typing an address works without granting location access at all. Neither is transmitted anywhere except as part of an export or upload you explicitly initiate.
AI training photo uploads (opt-in)
To improve future versions of EgressIQ's measurement and window-detection accuracy, the app can upload a copy of a window photo along with its width, height, and sill-height measurements to our training data store. This is:
- Opt-in, presented during onboarding, and adjustable at any time in Settings.
- Tagged with a random upload ID, not your name, email, or Apple ID — we cannot look up which uploads belong to you.
- Stored in a private Cloudflare R2 bucket accessible only to us, with a hard storage cap in place.
- Used solely to train and evaluate future versions of EgressIQ. It is never sold or shared with unrelated third parties.
Contractor connection requests (optional)
If you choose to request a local contractor after a failed inspection, the name, phone number, and (optional) email you enter — along with the property address and, if you include it, the PDF report — are sent to us by email through our backend so we can follow up. This only happens if you fill out and submit that form.
Emailing a report to a client (inspectors)
If you're signed in as a home inspector and choose to email a report to a client, the client's email address and the PDF report are sent through our backend, which relays the email via our email provider (Resend) from reports@egressiq.ca. Your own email address is included only as the reply-to address, so the client can respond directly to you.
Purchases
All payments are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see or store your payment details — only whether a purchase or subscription is currently active, so the app can unlock the right features.
Diagnostics you choose to share
If you use “Share Scan Diagnostics” to help us troubleshoot a measurement issue, that export is encrypted before it leaves your device and can only be decrypted by us — it is never sent automatically.
Who we share data with
We rely on a small number of infrastructure providers:
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, StoreKit payments, and Maps Look Around photos.
- Cloudflare — hosts the backend services that receive opted-in training photo uploads, contractor connection requests, and client report emails.
- Resend — delivers contractor-connection and client-report emails on our behalf.
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not sell your data.
Your choices
- Turn off AI training photo uploads at any time in Settings.
- Delete the app to remove all on-device data. Property and inspection data is not backed up to any server we control.
- Contact us (below) to ask what data we hold about you or to request deletion of anything you've submitted through the contractor or client-report forms.
Children's privacy
EgressIQ is a professional compliance tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
